Liverpool have pulled out of the hunt for a “superstar” – after Andoni Iraola has expressed a desire to prioritise other targets.
The Reds are looking for reinforcements in the summer transfer window to support their new manager Andoni Iraola. Victor Muñoz was the first signing through the door at Anfield – after Liverpool snatched the winger from under Newcastle’s noses.

The club is still looking for further reinforcements on the wings, and also needs to strengthen in several other positions. Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konaté have all left the club as free agents this summer, so there is no doubt that Liverpool need reinforcements all over the pitch.
The signing of Muñoz is definitely not enough – especially if Liverpool are to improve on last year’s fifth-place finish in the Premier League.
Liverpool drop Wharton
According to Football Insider, Liverpool are now exploring other targets instead of signing Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. The Eagles are reluctant to lose the Englishman, and Liverpool’s interest has now quieted.
Iraola is exploring other options – he simply doesn’t feel that Wharton suits his style of play.
Liverpool will also prioritise strengthening the squad in other areas before they possibly return to midfield later in the window.
Wharton, described as a “superstar”, would have been an expensive affair anyway – Palace are reportedly demanding around £100 million for him.
Other priorities
Understandably, Liverpool have other priorities in the summer transfer window. They desperately need a replacement for Mohamed Salah – even though the Egyptian had a difficult season last time.
Salah has been a phenomenal goalscorer and assist for Liverpool since arriving at the club, and losing that kind of production in the final third could be very damaging.
It is absolutely necessary that they replace him in a good way – and that will probably be the club’s most important priority in the weeks to come.
Liverpool have also chased Yan Diomande, but it now looks like he is closer to a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
