Carrick is not one to dodge questions. It was therefore very interesting for Marcus Rashford fans, when interim manager Carrick was asked about the player he himself shared the pitch with at United between 2015 and 2018.

“There are some decisions that will eventually be made about some things, and Marcus is of course in that situation, but at this point nothing has been decided. At some point it has to, but at this point there is nothing to say,” Carrick replied at the press conference before the Chelsea game.

The English media interpreted this as “keeping the door open” for a reunion between Rashford and Carrick (and the United supporters).

When this is coupled with a report from Simon Stone, long-time United journalist at the BBC, that Marcus Rashford is open to returning to United after the season, then it starts to seem like a Rashford return with Michael Carrick as permanent United manager is actually possible and realistic.
