“Has changed all of Norway.” Erling Haaland, after the win against Brazil and the historic quarter-final ticket, was in the philosophical corner. A sporting feat and a national pride that will leave its mark for a long time to come. After following the activity in Times Square, in Miami, at the stadium, but more importantly – here at home throughout our elongated country, many probably agree. And the next step? It is to take the World Cup event “home”.
Not many hours after up to 120,000 people had paid tribute to our World Cup heroes at Karl Johan and up towards the Royal Palace, several political parties showed support for arranging the World Championships on home soil, in a Nordic collaboration.

Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland considered a joint European Championship application in 2017, but the plans were abandoned, partly because the countries would not be able to meet the requirements for stadium facilities. We still do not have the necessary facilities, but if there is the will and the power to implement, it is possible.

The next championships Norway can apply to host are the European Championships in 2036 and the World Championships in 2038.
