Manchester United’s reputation as a club that kills talent has not been completely erased, although Michael Carrick has managed to turn the mood in the team and the results on the pitch. Still, the Glazer family’s main owners and savior Sir Jim Ratcliffe are out of step with his fans, no one knows what they might come up with around the next corner.

Whether that is the reason why Manchester United are experiencing a string of “pole out” in the transfer market this summer despite qualifying for the Champions League is still up for debate.

Manchester United’s deal to sign Atalanta star Ederson has collapsed

The Red Devils had reportedly struck a deal with the Serie A club worth £38 million – including add-ons – for the Brazilian international, who is currently at the World Cup Norway.

Ederson had reportedly signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford, and was supposed to complete medical tests and paperwork after the World Cup. But now it is claimed that the agreement has fallen through.

Big blow for United

According to Djameel, the agreement has collapsed despite everything being in place.

It is reported that Ederson will no longer sign for Manchester United – a huge blow for the Red Devils, who have already missed out on several midfield goals in this window.

Manchester United had made Elliot Anderson their top target, but the English star went to local rivals Manchester City from Nottingham Forest for a British record sum of £116 million.

The club also wanted Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, but were beaten by Tottenham – who paid £85m for the 21-year-old despite West Ham being relegated to the Championship.

Michael Carrick’s midfield crisis

Manchester United’s official line remains that they intend to carry out the deal. But should they change their minds, it may indicate a change in strategy.

The club had been keen to add up to three midfielders this summer – following Casemiro’s departure as a free agent and Manuel Ugarte’s serious knee injury. But after missing out on several goals, they may be forced to rethink: fewer midfielders, but with higher quality – as the market demands larger sums than expected.

For now, United say that the deal is still in effect, but this is definitely something to keep a close eye on in the weeks to come.
