With only four games left in the season, Tottenham find themselves in a completely unthinkable situation. The team is only two points above the relegation zone, and it looks like either Spurs or local rivals West Ham United will be the last team to be knocked out of the Premier League.

They gained some confidence when they claimed their first league win of 2026 against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. But it hurts to see that both West Ham and Nottingham Forest also won on the same weekend.

Forest are five points ahead of the relegation zone and will most likely feel that one more win should be enough to secure their place. Thus, the pressure is on the two London clubs to take decisive points. When Tottenham travel to Villa Park to face Aston Villa, they will know how West Ham fared on Saturday.

De Zerbi’s side travel to Aston Villa on Sunday, and the injury problems are piling up. The Italian manager lost both Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke at Molineux. The former tore his cruciate ligament and is out for several months, while the latter suffered a grade two hamstring injury that is likely to sideline him for the rest of the season.

Tottenham “makes” bid for AC Milan profile

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham are one of two Premier League clubs that have already made a bid for AC Milan midfielder Youssouf Fofana ahead of the summer transfer window.

The condition is probably that De Zerbi keeps the club in the Premier League – not that they are relegated to the Championship. Tottenham have already secured two new signings that are contingent on survival. Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi will both be on a free transfer when their contracts expire at the end of the season.

AC Milan are reportedly willing to consider suitable bids for the 27-year-old, who they believe has not lost value since his move from Monaco in 2024 cost €25 million.

Why De Zerbi want Fofana

When Fofana left Monaco for the San Siro, he was known as a defensive midfielder who sat right in front of the defence. Although the Frenchman has occasionally played the same role for Milan, Max Allegri has often used him as a right-back in his preferred 3-5-2 system.

At De Zerbi at Tottenham, Fofana is likely to return to a deeper role in the Spaniard’s 4-2-3-1 system. But there is no doubt that the 46-year-old will love his qualities.

Fofana has not only been referred to as “unbelievable” by teammate Malick Thiaw for the job he does without the ball. He has also confirmed that he likes to take chances when he has the ball – something De Zerbi will definitely appreciate.

Of course with Fofana

Tottenham need a major renewal if they manage to salvage their place. Signing a player with Fofana’s experience and quality for around £20 million is almost a given. No wonder they have already contacted his representatives to discuss a deal.
