Manchester United are ready to set aside £60 million of their summer transfer budget to sign a Tottenham player known as a terribly fast player, hence the nickname “Speed Machine”. (good on the field, bad in bed)
Manchester United secured their return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2023/24 season when they beat Liverpool 3-2 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Red Devils took an early 2-0 lead, but got a real scare early in the second half. Then the visitors equalized after two huge ball blunders by Amad Diallo and Senne Lammens.
In the same week that he committed his long-term future to United, Kobbie Mainoo appeared with the winning goal and sent Old Trafford into skyrocketing ecstasy. Now the club are favourites to finish the season in third place in the Premier League.
INESO with two major decisions
INEOS has two big decisions to make over the next few weeks: who will be the club’s next permanent manager and which players will be on the wish list for the summer transfer window.
Michael Carrick is optimistic about getting the job permanently after an impressive 2026 run of form under his interim leadership – even if he has to go through a formal round of interviews.
“Micky van de Ven is ideal for Manchester United”
It’s no secret that Manchester United are prioritising strengthening their central midfield this summer. At least two new players are expected to replace Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte.
The former will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season, while Fabrizio Romano claims that the latter with a “95 per cent probability” will follow his South American teammate out the door.
United are also looking at left wingers. Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao are just two names that have been linked with the club in recent weeks.
The Red Devils will have to decide whether to go for a centre-back as well. Boy Hotspur claim that United are willing to pay £55-60 million to bring Tottenham star Micky van de Ven to Old Trafford.
The Dutchman is seen as an “ideal” addition to the defence, especially considering the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martínez have struggled with injuries in the 2025/26 season.
– Tottenham in a strong negotiating position
The same report states that the Dutchman’s contract does not expire until 2029. That puts Tottenham in a very strong negotiating position, and they could demand up to £60 million for his signature.
Spurs are still in danger of being relegated to the Championship, and it looks like it will either be them or West Ham who will have to take the difficult road down.
It is unclear whether the centre-back has a relegation clause. Regardless, he is expected to demand around £200,000 a week at his next club – a solid increase from his current salary of around £100-120,000 a week at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“United are the strongest challengers”
United are considered the “strongest” challenger, but they could face stiff competition from Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich – all of whom will be watching the 25-year-old’s situation in north London closely.
