Last winter and spring, it was Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold who were in lengthy negotiations with Liverpool. It ended with an exit on the last one. This winter, it has been Ibrahima Konate’s turn to be on an expiring contract, with Liverpool supporters starting to get reasonably frustrated with the process. After helping paint Liverpool red with a win against city rivals Everton, the Frenchman speaks for the first time about how the situation is.
Ibrahima Konate has previously been reported to be open to a move to Real Madrid, while it has also been reported that he was disappointed with a contract offer from Liverpool.

“To be honest, there’s a lot people have said, but we’ve been in dialogue with the club for a long time, and we’re (now) close to an agreement. I think it’s something everyone has wanted for as long as possible and we’re on the right track,” the French defender began, according tothe Liverpool Echo.
And not just on the right track.
“I’m waiting to get the contract in place, but when everything is in place, you have to ask Richard Hughes (sporting director) what I said to him in September and November – then he will say something that will make everyone shut up. Yes, it has taken a long time, but it is a negotiation. It was the same with Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk last season,” Konate concludes.
