The bitter London rivals are both desperate for better results after neither managed to qualify for European football. Spurs supporters, however, would argue that they had it worse – the Lilywhites narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League, while Chelsea at least reached the FA Cup final.
Tottenham finished the Premier League season in 17th place, while Chelsea “secured” 10th place.

Both clubs have changed managers in recent months. Tottenham hired Roberto De Zerbi in March, while Chelsea brought in Xabi Alonso when last season officially ended. Both must lead major improvements.
Both London clubs are chasing Balogun
Both Tottenham and Chelsea are interested in a transfer for Monaco and USA striker Folarin Balogun, according to journalist Santi Aouna. PSG are also said to have their eyes on the 24-year-old.
The Parisians are looking for a replacement for Gonçalo Ramos, who is on his way to AC Milan. But Spurs offer “stiff competition”, while Chelsea “are also interested”. The report says that Spurs have made Balogun a “priority” this summer.
Balogun came through the youth ranks at Arsenal and played ten senior games for the Gunners. He also had loan spells at Middlesbrough and Reims before moving to Monaco in 2023. Since then, the USMNT striker has recorded 31 goals and 13 assists in 91 appearances for the French team.
Return to London makes sense
Balogun grew up in London – despite representing the United States. A move to Tottenham or Chelsea would therefore be particularly interesting, given his past at Arsenal.
The striker never got a real chance in the Premier League with the Gunners, but his status as one of Europe’s hottest strikers is growing – and could be even bigger after the World Cup.
Balogun scored twice for the United States in the World Cup opener against Paraguay – something that has turned the world’s attention on him. A move to PSG would also make sense, with the Parisians being Europe’s best club at the moment.
Whatever happens, it seems unlikely that Balogun will still be playing for Monaco when the window closes.
