James Morrison goes from interim to permanent manager at West Bromwich

Since the end of February, James Morrison has served as interim manager of West Bromwich. Now the temporary role is being turned into a permanent position, the Championship club reports on their own website.

The club writes: During his recent tenure as interim head coach, Morrison secured Sky Bet Championship survival with an unbeaten streak of 10 games, including four wins, six draws and seven clean sheets. The 39-year-old, who has only lost one of his 14 games as coach of the Baggies, has signed a two-year contract.

Morrison made 341 appearances during his 12 years playing for The Hawthorns, scoring 39 goals and making 46 caps for Scotland.

Chairman Shilen Patel is very pleased that the parties have reached an agreement.

“James has led the club through an exceptionally tough period and I would like to thank him and his staff for bringing us all together,” Patel said.

“The fact that we saved the place was no coincidence. James’ appointment is fully deserved. His increasing leadership was absolutely crucial to inspire and bring the whole club together just when we needed it most.

“He represents everything this club stands for, and he lives up to the standards our fans expect.

“James has all the qualities required to lead the club forward and I look forward to the future with him at the helm of our players,” Patel concluded.
