In the World Cup, Bruno Guimaraes had a rough encounter with Norway, Ørjan Nyland on the line and captain Martin Ødegaard. The Brazilian missed a penalty, Neymar fell into tears after playing his last international match and a football nation with over 200 million inhabitants had the World Cup party mercilessly ended by the “football mosquito” from the north. On Sunday, it was again time for Guimaraes to be on the pitch with Ødegaard, but this time he was on the “right side” of the pitch. Then, of course, it was a success.

In the summer, Guimaraes was heavily linked to Arsenal, and the reigning Premier League champions also ended up raising £75 million for the Newcastle captain. On Sunday, Guimaraes was already an important player for Arsenal, as the Gunners were able to lift the Community Shield trophy after a convincing 3-0 win against Manchester City.

This was Guimaraes’ first official game for Arsenal, captain Ødegaard praised the player he sent out of the World Cup this summer.

“He has been incredible from the start. He feels like a natural part of the team, even though we have had some big games against each other before. You can see his quality. He’s so good on the ball, but he’s also a fighter, he wins the ball. It was hugely important,” Martin Ødegaard boasted according to Sky Sports.

We sense this is just the beginning of a new super trio in midfield with Declan Rice also in place.
