China’s first Formula 1 driver, Zhou Guanyu, will race for the same team next season. Alfa Romeo confirms. Extending the contract by one year should give the Asian a chance to compete in his home country.
Guanyu, 24, made his debut for the Swiss team last season. Then he scored a point in Bahrain.
– Signing a contract again is always a great feeling. I’m also very excited to finally race with my team in China in front of my home crowd. It will be a great moment and I’m proud to share it with everyone who supported me – said the Chinese.
For the first time in his career, the Chinese player will have a chance to present himself in front of his home fans, and in his hometown. The Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai is scheduled for April 21 after a five-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent restrictions.
Guanyu is 16th in the general classification with four points.
