Liverpool had to shell out around £125 million to force Newcastle to release Alexander Isak last summer. The Premier League’s second-highest scoring player last season was brought in to decide the big games. On Tuesday, Liverpool had to increase their efficiency in front of PSG’s goal, Slot went for Alexander Isak. After the game and exit the Champions League for Liverpool after a 0-4 aggregate, Slot and the English media plus Jamie Carragher and Shearer disagreed strongly about the Swede’s performance.
Arne Slott praised Isak for his substitution: “He (Isak) was close to scoring twice, and that’s why you play with a striker of his calibre. It was a header from a set-piece and a good run deep behind Willian Pacho, where he was very close to scoring, even though it ended up offside.”

The Daily Mirror refers to Isak as a “flop” and gives him a score of 4/10. FrenchL’Equipe writes that Isak “disappeared in traffic” and has him as by far the weakest player on the pitch at a score of 2/10.
Alan Shearer has previously expressed great enthusiasm for the former Newcastle striker, but even Shearer shook his head dejectedly at what was delivered: “He (Isak) was hardly involved at all. Just five touches of the ball, didn’t do enough and didn’t look ready.”
Jamie Carragher couldn’t fathom the choice of Isak over Mohammed Salah: “I can’t believe Salah isn’t in the starting eleven. I can’t understand why. The coach has his reasons, but Isak is nowhere near ready.”
In other words, something different perception of reality than Slots.
