FC Barcelona have just signed Rodri from Manchester City for €70 million – but the Spaniards are already working on their next project: signing Viktor Gyökeres from Arsenal.

The transfer for Rodri is not yet official, but the World Cup d’Or winner and Spain’s captain is expected to be presented shortly. As soon as the papers are signed, Barcelona are turning their attention to the void at the top – and Viktor Gyökeres is at the top of their wish list, according to El Chiriguito (via Sport).

Viktor Gyökeres on Barcelona’s striker list

Barcelona are without a pure striker after Robert Lewandowski left the club as a free agent in the summer. Julián Álvarez has been the main target, but Atlético Madrid have repeatedly rejected all inquiries – pointing to the Argentine’s buyout clause of a staggering €500 million.

Hansi Flick still wants the club to push for Álvarez, but other options are being explored – and Gyokeres is now the frontrunner.

In addition to the Swede, the Catalans are also considering Lautaro Martínez (Inter) and Luis Suárez (Sporting CP), and have even been linked with Villarreal’s Georges Mikautadze.

Bids are expected “within the hours”

According to journalist José Álvarez, Barcelona are ready to make a bid for the Arsenal striker – and an offer will come “in the next few hours”.

Viktor Gyökeres is seen as a direct replacement for Ferran Torres, who left Barcelona for PSG last week.

The Catalans believe the 28-year-old is a realistic possibility, as he has reportedly struggled to secure a permanent place in Arsenal’s starting eleven – despite joining from Sporting on a €70 million deal in 2025.

Arsenal are not selling – full stop

But the claim that Viktor Gyökeres is available hardly holds up.

Arsenal are not considering selling the Swede at all. The striker, who netted 21 goals last season, was linked with Atlético Madrid earlier this summer as part of a swap for Julián Álvarez – but the Gunners were never willing to consider any kind of offer.

There is no indication that Arsenal’s attitude has changed – especially with only one week left until the Premier League opener.

Viktor Gyökeres delivered an impressive debut season in North London. He provided the goals and physicality Arsenal hoped for when they invested heavily to sign him. His performances have only strengthened the club’s belief that he can be a leading figure in attack in the years to come.

The claim that Arsenal would be willing to listen to bids for a striker they signed just a year ago – and who had a brilliant first season – simply doesn’t make sense.

Barcelona are of course free to make a bid for Viktor Gyökeres. But they might as well prepare for a cash rejection from the Premier League champions.
