Then it was finally done. Weighed too lightly at Old Trafford, but the opposite at Napoli. With the Champions League ticket secured, came the automatic purchase of the Danish national team striker. This week came the confirmation that Rasmus Hojlund will continue at Napoli for a permanent transfer. There is little doubt that the Serie A club has high expectations for deliveries – and increased value.
When Hojlund was pushed out from Manchester United to rent last summer, the young striker’s market value had taken a sharp fall. At Antonio Conte, the working conditions have been perfect for Hojlund, with 16 goals in 44 games and more than 3600 minutes on the pitch. With confidence comes performance.

Napoli have paid €44 million for a permanent transfer, in addition to the €6 million they paid for the 23-year-old’s seasonal rental. According to several Italian sources, including Gazzetta dello Sport, Hojlund has a buyout clause of 85 million euros in his contract. This can be activated as early as next summer, it is reported.

It will be interesting to follow Højlund’s market price over the next year, and whether a suitor sees the value in flipping up 85 million euros for the Dane. It almost seems like Napoli are setting up for good sales revenues at Højlund. The Italians have seen more of the potential than the crowd at Old Trafford.
