Ask a Man Utd supporter in the red section of Manchester United what they think of the owner, the Glazer family, and you’ll probably get a furious grunt in response. Now there are signals that the Americans have discussed about 20 years as the majority owner of one of the world’s biggest clubs holds.
The sale process last time, which ended with Jim Ratcliffe initially buying a part of the club, was chaotic to say the least. According to Bloomberg, parts of the Glazer family have begun discussing the possibility of selling their stake in Manchester United, with the wealthy American family considering both the sale of their entire ownership in the Premier League giant, as well as parts of it.
Initially, the conversation within the family was about stock sales from a few individual family members. Those who are positive about a sale must persuade the rest of the family to open up. The announcement comes about 2.5 years after the Glazer family sold a roughly 29 percent stake to chemical giant INOES and owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, giving the UK control of the club’s football operations.
Previously, The Times stated that Ratcliffe has the right to buy the Glazer family’s shares if a majority of them become available for sale.
