This in the season where Martin Ødegaard’s Gunners went all the way to the Champions League final (and lost to PSG on penalties). What has hampered Arsenal is the injuries to key players. Not unusual for a club that participates in all competitions, but not acceptable for the London club. Now moves are being made before the start of the season.

In 2024, Zafar Iqbal was hired as Arsenal’s chief medical officer. A clear goal must then have been to reduce the large number of injuries that the club suffered over a long period of time. The doctor is not considered to have succeeded well enough in this task. According to the Telegraph , Arsenal are making changes to their medical staff, with Iqbal having to leave.

Arsenal make changes to reduce injuries

According to the English newspaper, the news has come as a surprise to Iqbal and the rest of the medical team, who have probably celebrated the jubilee season like the rest of the club’s staff.

Arsenal suffered a number of injuries during 2025-26, with stars such as Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber, Mikel Merino and Kai Havertz missing much of the season. This should not be repeated.
