World Cup 2026: England–Norway – key figures

  • The teams have met 12 times. Most recently in a friendly in September 2014, which England won 1-0. Norway has won two of the games, but has not scored in any of the last four meetings.
  • Only Brazil (14) and Germany (14) have more World Cup quarter-finals than England (11).
  • England have progressed from three of their ten previous World Cup quarter-finals – conceding more than one goal in seven of them.
  • Jordan Pickford could equal Peter Shilton’s record as England’s most used World Cup goalkeeper with his 18th World Cup appearance.
  • Harry Kane has six goals in the World Cup – one behind Haaland in the gold medal match. Kane also scored six goals in the 2018 World Cup. Only Gary Lineker (1986) has scored as many for England in a World Cup.
  • Erling Braut Haaland has scored in his last 14 international matches for Norway (a total of 27 goals) – and in all four World Cup matches so far.
  • The last time a player scored in his first five World Cup games was James Rodríguez for Colombia in 2014. The last time a European did so was Gerd Müller for Germany in 1970.
  • Four of Haaland’s goals have been match-winners. Only Poland’s Grzegorz Lato (1974) and Italy’s Salvatore Schillaci (1990) have more match-winning goals in a World Cup (five each).
  • Norway has scored 12 goals and conceded 9. Germany in 1954 is the only team to have both scored and conceded at least 10 goals on their way to a semi-final. Now Norway can come second.
