Liverpool have taken a heavy blow in the transfer market. One of the club’s main goals is to say no to a potential transfer.

This is happening at the same time as Liverpool want to improve the squad both in the short and long term – with a clear vision of bringing the club back to the top not only in the Premier League, but also the Champions League.

Andoni Iraola’s arrival means a transition to more intense and high-pressure football. It requires a squad that is built for just that style.

While links with players such as Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola continue, Liverpool’s recruitment team has also had their eyes set on several young stars for the future. However, one of these prodigies has declined.

Kennet Eichhorn says no to Liverpool

One transfer Liverpool have been working on behind the scenes is the signing of Hertha Berlin’s young midfield talent Kennet Eichhorn. The 16-year-old has impressed greatly in recent months.

He broke through in Bundesliga 2 and already looks at home in senior competition – despite his young age. Naturally, this has attracted interest from several big clubs, including Liverpool, who have recently intensified their pursuit of Eichhorn as a future project.

Despite the offer being described as the “most attractive” the young player has received, Florian Plettenberg claims that Eichhorn has turned down the transfer.

It’s a hard blow for Liverpool. The club could not have signed Eichhorn permanently before he turns 18 anyway, but the plan was to send him back to Germany on loan for the coming season – if a transfer was agreed in advance.

The midfielder has been described as “exciting” because of his enormous potential. But it looks like the potential will be developed elsewhere in Europe – not at Anfield, and not in the Premier League.

Liverpool must focus on the most important things

While Liverpool look set to lose Eichhorn to their rivals, it is unlikely to be as heavy as missing out on other, more immediate transfer targets.

The young German midfielder would not have been able to make an immediate difference for the team anyway. It will take at least a year before he can officially come in, and Liverpool need players who can contribute here and now.

Finding a right-wing replacement for Mohamed Salah must be the absolute priority. All focus and attention should be directed towards exactly that.

Along with Diomande, Liverpool are also considering a major investment in a Real Madrid star – a bid of £100 million is already out. Liverpool could make a big deal this summer.

In addition, extra energy and speed in midfield would be a great advantage. Alex Scott has emerged as a potential target for Liverpool in the transfer market.

It remains to be seen what other deals can happen, but the focus must be on adding immediate quality – so that Iraola gets the help he needs right from the start.
