Divock Origi has cult status at Liverpool. The super reserve scored both in the turnaround against Barcelona in the semi-finals, then in the final against Tottenham when Liverpool won the Champions League in the 2018/19 season. The Belgian player had a high star with Jürgen Klopp, even though there was no playing time to speak of. For Origi, the “safe” existence at Klopp’s Liverpool turned out to be the last good memories of his career.

In 2022, Origi was done at Anfield and signed with AC Milan. Here his career took a significant turn. In the 2022/23 season, the striker scored just two goals in Serie A, before being loaned to Nottingham Forest the following season. The Belgian did not find a foothold in England either, and since then he has been stranded at AC Milan – and we mean literally stranded, at Milano Futoro – the club’s reserve team.

Divock Origi retires

His stay at the Serie A club was marked by a long-term conflict between Origi and the club management. In the summer, his contract with AC Milan expired, Origi says he will not be looking for a new club, this is the time to retire.

Now the last years of sporting chaos can be ended and put in the drawer. Liverpool supporters’ status as the great Champions League hero never goes away.
