The three biggest coaching profiles from Portugal are now in a phase of changes. Marco Silva’s contract expires at Fulham, Ruben Amorim has free agent status after United sacked him in January, while Jose Mourinho will be tapped in as the new Real Madrid coach in a few weeks. The trio also has a common denominator: Benfica.
Mourinho has led Benfica for one season, but has been called in to bring discipline into the Real Madrid squad. The Lisbon club is actively working to find a replacement.

According to English journalist Ben Jacobs, Benfica president Rui Costa has been actively working to bring in Amorim as a replacement. Negotiations had begun, but reportedly broke down this week.
Benfica have clearly been working on parallel runs, because according to transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Benfica’s management has now agreed a deal with Marco Silva, the transfer of which will soon be announced.
Silva is from Lisbon and is said to have wanted to return home when his contract with Fulham expires. The 48-year-old has previously managed Sporting in his home country, like Amorim, but now he is ready to lead arch-rivals Benfica.
