Mohamed Salah has left Liverpool just before the World Cup. Now his likely next destination should be ready. According to several sources, the Egyptian has agreed to a surprising club in Europe.

Salah left Liverpool by mutual agreement after the final round of the 2025/26 Premier League season. He signed a two-year contract with the Reds as recently as April last year, but both parties agreed to end the partnership one year early.

After his last game for Liverpool, the Egyptian winger stated to beIN Sports that he was still considering his future. He would make the final decision after the World Cup, unless a “good opportunity” arose before then.

Linked to Saudi Arabia – but chooses Europe

Salah has long been heavily linked with a club in the Saudi Pro League – the same league that tried to sign him as early as the summer of 2024. Now, however, he has reportedly given the green light to a move to a surprise club in Europe instead.

Aziz Yildirim, who was recently re-elected as Fenerbahce’s presidential candidate, claimed last week that he would make an attempt to sign Salah.

“Salah would ask for a three-year contract, and the total cost would be 90 million euros. If he is our urgent need, we will sign him! Our football committee will decide these cases,” Yildirim told reporters.

Won the presidential election – and can deliver the star

Yildirim’s statements should probably be taken with a pinch of salt. His rival, Hakan Safi, also promised signings he couldn’t keep, like Mason Greenwood. There has also been speculation that Robert Lewandowski would join the club after his Barcelona contract expired.

But Yildirim eventually won the presidential election and was appointed Fenerbahce president for the second time on June 7. He also managed the club between 1998 and 2018, before being replaced by Ali Koc.

“Salah is very eager to move to Turkey”

Yildirim’s Salah statements have been supported by Ertan Torunogullari, who worked under the previous Fenerbahce board. He revealed that Salah was “very eager” to move to Turkey, and that he had had “very positive meetings” with the now former Liverpool star.

Salah has been named in Egypt’s 26-man squad as captain for the 2026 World Cup, which will be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer.

The African nation has been drawn into Group G, where they face Belgium, New Zealand and Iran.

The opening game against Belgium will be played in Seattle on June 15 at Lumen Field. Then Egypt travels to co-host Canada to face New Zealand in Vancouver on June 21. The last group game is against Iran in Seattle on June 26.

After the squad landed in the United States before the tournament, Salah told ESPN:

“I think we just have to focus on our camp and train hard. Then we will see how it goes in the group.

“We want to make the people proud, and we will do our best. It’s a tough group, but everyone has a chance. We’ll do our best, and we’ll see. Hopefully we can go far.
