This winter, Liverpool and other big clubs were getting ready to sign German centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck. Negotiations for an extension with Dortmund had stalled, one of the market’s top centre-backs was now in play. Then suddenly everything worked out at Dortmund, where the 26-year-old sat down to sign a contract extension in April. Two months later, Schlotterbeck is expected not to start the season in a Dortmund shirt.
The German international signed a contract until 2031, but the deal includes a buyout clause of between 50 and 60 million euros, which some selected clubs could trigger. The Dortmund president saw no reason to hide the existence of a clause.

Expects Real Madrid to take advantage of Schlotterbeck’s buyout clause
-I would say that it is a good compromise. For us, it’s about securing a certain transfer value, while of course also giving ourselves some time to plan,” the Dortmund president told Ruhr Nachrichten.
According to Bild, the clause applies to Real Madrid and Liverpool, among others. The German media claims that the Dortmund management expects Real Madrid to send a bid for the defender soon. Schlotterbeck’s clause will be active until mid-July – around the time of the World Cup final on July 19.
