Tottenham have had a heavy focus on incoming players so far this summer, with deals already announced for free agents Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi before the transfer window officially opens on June 15.
Spurs are also in talks over two new additions at the moment, as they try to agree fees with Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester City respectively for Jan Paul van Hecke and Savinho.
The north Londoners wanted to sign the latter last summer, but were unable to agree a deal with the City bosses. They are hoping for a different outcome this summer, as De Zerbi tries to strengthen their front line ahead of next season.
Meanwhile, the Italian also wants to link up with a player he had during his time as Brighton boss, Van Hecke, where both players are said to be eager to join and prioritise transfers to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over other options.
Spurs could get a new defence in 2026-27, but De Zerbi wants Porro to be part of it too.
The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Tottenham star Porro is one of the right-backs that Manchester City have been keeping an eye on ahead of the summer transfer window.
Since then, Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari has reported on social media that the Spaniard could leave Spurs this summer, with the club valuing him at £60 million. (approximately 70 million euros)
He mentioned Atletico Madrid as another potential suitor for the 26-year-old along with City.
However, Romano has given his latest update on the situation to Porro on X on Thursday morning.
Despite reports, the Italian journalist says that Tottenham want to keep Porro at the club, and that De Zerbi sees him as a key player for the future.
Tottenham look set to sign two new centre-backs and a left-back as things stand, so right-back Porro could be part of a completely new defence next season.
Robertson will battle Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies for a starting spot at left-back, while Senesi and Van Hecke will battle with captain Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin for a starting spot.
That said, the arrival of both Senesi and Van Hecke at Tottenham Hotspur could point to an exit for Romero, who has long been linked with a move away from the club.
Porro is currently facing competition from Djed Spence for the right-back spot, and De Zerbi is unsurprisingly happy to keep both ahead of next season, while also focusing on strengthening other positions.
Romano seems confident that Tottenham want Porro to stay, so unless something changes, we can expect him to play in white again next season.
