Tottenham Hotspur are working hard to complete a total of seven signings this transfer window, while the owners of ENIC have really put in the effort.
Spurs know they got away with luck as they narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the Premier League. The club management is aware that they now need to properly support manager Roberto De Zerbi in the market – to ensure that such a nightmare season never repeats itself.

One of Tottenham’s biggest weaknesses in recent years has been the defence. The club has conceded a whopping 183 Premier League goals over the last three seasons – a number that speaks for itself.
The north London club have already acted offensively to plug the defensive holes. They have brought in the experienced Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers, and have also completed a deal worth £52 million for Brighton stopper Jan Paul van Hecke.
But Tottenham are far from done.
Four new signings on the way?
According to renowned Tottenham pundit Paul O’Keefe at X, Spurs are far from done with their summer activities – despite the fact that three players are already in place.
O’Keefe believes the club will try to bring in four more players before the window closes, with four key positions identified:
- Central midfield: Spurs are already said to be in talks about João Palhinha (permanent transfer after successful loan spell), Sandro Tonali (Newcastle) and Mateus Fernandes (West Ham). However, all three are unlikely to arrive – unless a big midfielder disappears.
- Attacking line: De Zerbi also wants to strengthen the offensive with a new left winger, a right winger and a striker.
Who can leave Tottenham?
If more new players are to come in, Spurs will also need to make room in the squad.
The greatest uncertainty prevails around captain Cristian Romero. He has been linked with a move away for several months, and the arrival of two new centre-backs only reinforces speculation that he could be on his way out. At the same time, the club wants to keep Micky van de Ven at all costs.
In midfield, David Ornstein has claimed that De Zerbi wants to bring in both Tonali and Fernandes. If that happens, it will probably mean goodbye for one or two of the existing midfielders.
Players such as Pape Matar Sarr and Lucas Bergvall could then come into play – both of which have previously attracted interest from other Premier League clubs.
In attack, Mathys Tel has been linked with a move away, but De Zerbi is said to have blocked any sale of the Frenchman. Richarlison, on the other hand, appears in transfer rumours every single window – and this summer is no exception.
Status so far
Tottenham have so far spent just over £50 million in the summer window. If the plans for four more signings are realized, that amount will quickly skyrocket.
One thing is for sure: Tottenham are in the midst of their most ambitious transfer window in years. Now it remains to be seen whether De Zerbi will get the squad he asks for – and whether Spurs can finally put the relegation scare behind them for good.
