There is most talk about the goal scorers at Norway – and captain Martin Ødegaard. During the World Cup finals, however, there is a midfield engine that has worked tirelessly in the heat to stop the opponents’ attacks – and give our attacking players the best working conditions. In fact, it is hardly possible to exaggerate the importance Patrick Berg has had on the Norwegian success.

The Bodø/Glimt player was on the pitch in all World Cup matches, a total of 324 minutes on the pitch. Berg was the third most running player in Norway. With his enormous running capacity, he covered 43.8 km in the battle arena.

In the group stage, the 28-year-old provided two crucial assists in the group stage against Ivory Coast and Senegal, and provided an assist for Haaland’s decisive goal in the 2-1 win against Brazil. Against the Brazilian stars, he won 7 duels and had a success rate of a wild 86 percent in “ground relations”. England also got to feel Berg’s extreme running ability and strength/timing in the duels.

Berg also showed in the World Cup quarterfinals that he is made for the big games. With his broad experience from the Europa League and Champions League for Bodø/Glimt against the biggest clubs, Bergo keeps calm and work ethic through the greatest pressure. This rubs off on the rest of the Norwegian national team squad.

Patrick Berg travels home to Bodø/Glimt with the knowledge that he has written football history in the Norwegian national team shirt. Now the experience will be taken back to Aspmyra, the elite league arenas – and new adventures in the Champions League.

When future generations in a couple of decades read about Norway’s feat in the 2026 World Cup, Patrick Berg will be there as one of the greats.
