Spanish media have reported in recent days that Trent Alexander-Arnold has told Liverpool that he wants to go to Real Madrid. The Reds have had a brilliant first season so far under new boss Arne Slot, but three contract issues have towered over the club like a dark cloud.

Star players Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold can all move on for free in the summer, and so far neither of them sees an extension despite being offered new terms.

The most persistent rumour has swirled around vice-captain Alexander-Arnold as Real Madrid are ready to start negotiations with him as soon as we enter 2025.

So far, Alexander-Arnold has prioritized talks with Liverpool. According to MARCA, Alexander-Arnold has informed Liverpool’s club bosses that he intends to leave for Real Madrid in 2025. They write that the defender expressed his desire during Liverpool’s last attempt to persuade him to stay.

It is claimed that an extension is becoming increasingly unlikely, and indeed impossible, due to the fact that the England international has essentially made up his mind. Alexander-Arnold’s close relationship with Jude Bellingham is being described as one of the key factors in his decision, as the Real Madrid superstar has informed his Three Lions teammate about what it’s like to play for Los Blancos.

The 26-year-old, it is claimed, has been “seduced” by the idea of joining Real Madrid and is not expected to remain at his boyhood club beyond the current season.

The Spanish giants are taking things easy and will not force the matter in January. They have been through this process before with David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger and, of course, Kylian Mbappe.
