Last season, Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League. Captain Bruno Fernandes delivered solid performances throughout the season, but that was not the case for the team. An offer that would make the Portuguese one of the world’s highest-paid players was ready, the conditions being that it would be natural to leave the club he signed for in 2020. Fernandes stayed – and has led the team to a real boost after Carrick’s arrival in January. Now Fernandes is telling us why he stayed, a story United fans will love.

In an interview with Wayne Rooney, Bruno Fernandes explains his decision to stay at Old Trafford.

“I stayed because I felt I still had something to give back to the club. Of course, there was the situation with Saudi Arabia and the money… it was a lot. The good thing about my family is that my wife is quite down-to-earth like me,” Fernandes begins, according to the BBC.

Because it was never about money.

“We’re very aware that we don’t want to be the richest people in the world. We just want to be the ones who have achieved the dreams we had and live a good life with our children and try to be as successful as possible. My wife’s words were, ‘Have you achieved your dreams? Have you achieved everything you wanted?’ And that little thing she said made me understand that she’s on the same wavelength as me. Let’s keep going and see where it takes me,” Fernandes says.

We thank Mrs Fernandes for the persuasive words. Man Utd need their Bruno.
